Day Three
Okay so I was so exhausted this morning. I rolled out of the lower bunk bed and with a drunken stammer, made my way across the KOA compound to the women's restroom (hoping no one could see me). I was really not prepared for what I saw in the mirror. I looked like a Brazilian prison mug shot. Oh man did I need some sleep.
With 2 very cranky children, we were off at the crack of 8:00 this morning. McDonald's coffee in one hand and the steering wheel in the other, we shot out of Dayton, OH with Wagontown, PA in our sights. We drove and drove and drove till we were cross-eyed.
Thank heavens for iPods. Terri and took turns sharing our music. It was fun taking a stroll down memory lane via the music we grew up with.
Oh and by the way, can I say something about tolls and turnpikes? What a rip off. Oklahoma charged me 8 dollars to ride on rundown bumpy roads. Geez. The PA turnpike was very nice, it was the Cadillac of toll roads, but I think that $19.20 was a little steep. For that kind of money I expect a drink, dinner and a show before asking me bend over and...well you know.
It was so great to get to my in-laws. They looked fabulous. There will be a lot of family here this week. I know it is odd that I came without my husband to see his family, but they are so great and always make me feel like I am one of them. (Yes even you Tom R. ;)
Funny things said today:
Terri to Molly: Where does milk come from? Molly to Terri: They squeeze it out of the cow's gutters.
Cindy to all in the car: We are staying in a 1790's farmhouse while we are here.
Molly to Cindy: Mom, what's a "firm house?"
Terri to Cindy: I think I have bedsores on my butt.
As we were driving down a winding road between 2 corn fields, Terri told me to stop talking because there were so many "ears" listening...and then she proceeded to tell me that she was sorry for telling such a "corny" joke. I must have been tired, because I laughed at that.
No real funny signs today.
We have now seen 40 different state license plates.
So we are showered and in a cool room laying in a comfortable bed and my children are happily in the care of their Oma and Opa (sleeping on their bedroom floor.) We are so excited to sleep in. I fully expected to sleep so long that they will have to dust me when I wake up.
Good night dear friends and family. Till tomorrow.

Day 2
Day 2...the day that would not end.
We really had lofty aspirations of leaving early but for some reason it just did not work out. We seemed to have trouble getting started. Perhaps it was that our stopping to get gas, which let to driving through McDonalds for some dollar menu items, or the "quick" stop we made to the Candy Factory to grab an unholy amount of candy...or our sweep through the World's Largest Gift Shop...or again having to stop to pee an exorbitant amount of times.
There was still crying today, but it was contained to the younger travelers (THANK GOD).
Speaking of the girls, they are holding up pretty well. We only had to take one trip to the woodshed for a come to Jesus meeting today. They have kept themselves pretty entertained with the sweetest invention ever, the DVD player!
Not many funnies to report today. It seems that there is not much of a sense of humor past Oklahoma, except for the old lady in the PT Cruiser with the "Adopt a Turtle" bumper sticker. I was not aware that was a pressing issue in our country, or maybe it was a euphemism. Who's to say?
Anywho, we finally got going about noon and pushed forward like a car load of crazy women and were so happy to reach the Steak and Shake in Indianapolis. (Sorry Aimee that I did not call. We were so far behind, that I had to literally eat and run).
32 state license plates have been found including ALASKA.
We arrived at the KOA at 11:03pm and showered and I tried to subdue the wild children that fell out of the car. It took a sledge hammer and 3 bottles of Benadryl to coax them off of the ceiling. (Not really so don't call CPS).
We should arrive to our Oma and Opa's quaint historic farmhouse built in the 1700's tomorrow around 6 pm, but not to worry, our blog will continue through the entire 19 days. (Insert extreme sigh of relief here! Do it now...no really I mean it)
Okay so we are a little road weary so I will sign off for now.
Thanks for reading and for the words of support. Terri and I are excited to share our time with you all. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy sharing it.

Day 1 travel
Well day one of our trip is done. Ya know even though it was spent in the car driving, it was filled with a lot. Four females in the car is a real roving hormone-mobile even if 2 are under 7 years of age. This was exhibited by the fact that 2 of us cried before the day was over. Terri cried because she had to leave her beloved Sadie behind and me because I well who really knows why I cry. Maybe because I was tired, maybe because the sun was in my eyes...or heck maybe because it was 3:00 and I had not cried yet.
We must have stopped to pee 6 times in all. I was really surprised that we managed to keep our 8 hour day to only nine hours. (One hour was spent stuck in Tulsa, OK due to road construction.)
We got to the KOA campground at 5:00 and oh was it scorching hot!!! I must say that Terri was a trooper. She came into it with an open heart. She plopped herself on the bed and laid there with a cold cloth on her head until the air conditioning managed to cool the room to a cool and comfortable 80 degrees :(. She did manage to keep her her sense of humor with her and I appreciate her coming with me and her good attitude. Terri, you are the TOPS!!!
Funny things said today:
1. Molly: "Mom, you have to come and look at all the dog poop under the bed".
2. Cindy on the phone with my mom: "Mom, Terri is being such a good sport." Mom to Cindy, "Just remember that it is early in the trip."
3. Terri to Molly "What has been your favorite part of the trip so far?" Molly: "All the stops to go to the restroom."
4. Madison to Terri: "I know a a game we can play, close your eyes and I'll count to 10. 1, 2, 10...ready or not, here I look at you."
19 different state license plates seen today.
The funniest signs seen:
Tulsa: Billboard for "The Yard Sheriff...bringing lawn and order"
Springfield KOA...A picture of a coat hanger with a hotdog roasting over a fire says "Its all fun and games till someone looses a wiener".
Well I am off to wash the sweat away from me and they layers of dirt, chocolate, ice cream and pizza sauce off of the faces of my children.
